Halifax PPI reclaim

Halifax provides a large number of mortgages to people purchasing residential properties. The lender is part of the Lloyds Group the country’s largest financial group. Alongside its mortgages Halifax sells payment protection cover. This type of insurance protects a borrower from falling into debt as a result of involuntary unemployment by stepping in to take over repayments. The cover has received a lot of negative press; however, and many people have questioned its usefulness and the value it provides. Although mortgage payment protection itself is not a bad product it has not always been sold correctly and this has resulted in some customers being left with unsuitable policies or cover they did not want or need. As a consequence there has been an increase in the number making PPI claims including Halifax PPI reclaims.

There are several ways in which you may have been mis-sold a policy and these can be divided into roughly two categories. Mis-selling concerns what happened at the point of sale and you need to question whether you: (a) were sold a policy that was suitable for your needs and (b) whether you were given complete and correct information.

  1. Were you sold a policy that was suitable for your needs?
Most payment protection insurance policies have a high number of exemptions meaning that not everyone can be offered cover. Common circumstances that may make you ineligible for a policy include: if you have a serious pre-existing medical condition, if you are over the age of sixty-five or if you are self employed. Because of human error or a lack of training some policies may still have been offered and sold to unsuitable customers meaning you could, potentially, have been sold a policy you could not use.
  2. Were you given complete and correct information?
Before you took up your policy you should have been advised of the full terms and conditions of your cover as well as the costs. If you did not receive this information it could be regarded as mis-selling. Similarly, if you were told something that was inaccurate, for example that taking the cover would improve your chances of being given the loan, you may also be able to make a claim.
