PPI claim body criticised
The government's body for dealing with complaints about bank charges, payment protection insurance (PPI) mis-selling and loan charges has been slammed for lacking the expertise to help consumers.
A whistleblower who used to work for the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) says the organisation, which is responsible for adjudicating between consumers and banks, lacks the personnel and resources to properly deal with complaints.
Jane Sanders, who worked at FOS for two years, said she was "disgusted" at the way the organisation is run.
She told the news provider: "If adjudicators dont meet their targets, they dont get their bonus, so, of course, cases are going to be rushed through. My target was to close 3.5 cases every week."
The FOS deals with 170,000 cases a year and says it upholds six out of ten complaints against banks.
A ruling on millions of bank claims is expected later this week from the justices of the newly-opened Supreme Court.
