Credit card charges: Brits 'to spend more on hols than they did last year'

Some Brits may end up experiencing credit card charges if they do not carefully consider their holiday expenses, as 32 per cent say they plan to spend more on this year's trip than they did last year.

According to M&S Money, those who plan to spend more on their holidays will fork out an additional £365 on average.

James Yerkess, head of travel money at M&S Money, commented: "It is encouraging that although family finances have been squeezed by the economic downturn so many people are confident they will be able to maintain their holiday spending this year or spend even more.

"While the rising cost of inflation means an increase in spending is inevitable for many, there are ways for the savvy holidaymaker to maximise their budgets."

Research showed that 17 per cent of holidaymakers plan to spend less on this year's trip, while 42 per cent said they would be spending the same amount.
