PPI Claims: High costs 'preventing people going green'

PPI refunds could help people who want to make environmentally-friendly changes to their energy consumption but do not think they can afford to do so.

A new survey from uSwitch.com reveals that 44 per cent of people in the UK think it is more important to save money on their energy bills than help protect the environment. Only 23 per cent prioritised the planet's resources above their financial expenditure.

The research shows average utility bills have increased by £224 over the last year and Kevin Sears, an energy efficiency expert at the site, believes consumers realise they need to be careful with the amount of energy they use.

"However, there is still a common fear that energy efficiency costs the earth and that the outlay will outstrip any savings," he added.

House of Lords members will debate the finer points of the energy bill on October 4th. The proposed legislation aims to advance the UK's low-carbon sources of energy as well as promote fair competition in the energy market.
