PPI Claim: Brits 'use plastic plates to save money'

Payment protection refunds and credit card claims may be helpful for many families in the UK who are struggling to find the money to replace broken household items.

New research from swiftcover.com found one in six families try to repair domestic items goods as they cannot afford to replace them, while 1.2 million families across the country now use plastic crockery.

The survey also revealed 20 per cent of British households continue to use faulty items until they are totally unusable and that most domestic products are broken in the kitchen.

"There's clearly a growing acceptance that money is tight so getting the glue out or making do is now most definitely back," said the site's home insurance expert James Barclay.

Recent research from Barclays showed that 92 per cent of families in the UK are cutting back on the amount of money they spend each month, with many people spending up to three hours a month thinking about how they could reduce their outgoings.
