PPI Claims: Brits 'to cap Christmas spending'
Payment protection claims and loan refunds could help consumers cover the cost of Christmas this year, as many households plan to keep a tight budget due to ongoing financial concerns.
A new report from American Express found, on average, Brits will spend £364 on gifts this year, with two-thirds of individuals stating they will put a cap on the amount of money they are willing to spend.
"People are looking to take a more savvy approach to buying presents this year, but the cost of Christmas is still higher than it has been in previous years," said Julie Hay, head of credit cards at the company.
According to the research, in a bid to save money, 23 per cent of consumers will give out homemade presents this year, while 48 per cent will require a gift list so they know they will not be wasting money on unwanted gifts.
PPI claims could also help people avoid getting into debt, as a study from MoneySupermarket.com found 11 per cent will use a credit card to pay for goods this Christmas.
