PPI Claim: Unemployment figures 'show change is needed'

Payment protection claims and credit card refunds could be used by many people who are facing long-term unemployment.

Office for National Statistics figures show 2.62 million individuals are now unemployed in the UK – a figure that grew by 129,000 in the three months prior to September.

John Cridland, the director general of the Confederation of British Industry, believes a whole generation is now in danger of being financially crippled due to being without a job for a long period of time.

"These figures underline why we need urgent action to help our young people take their first steps in the labour market," he stated.

Mr Cridland also wants the government to change the benefit system to make the financial benefits for people who work much more rewarding.

The Money Advice Trust has warned that unemployment may mean many people will face serious financial difficulties and some will find bills pile up and cause them debt problems.
