Credit card claims could give consumers the financial boost they require to still enjoy their Christmas without worrying about the implications of their spending in the new year.The average British consumer will spend £437 on gifts and other festivities and people who choose to go into debt to fund the extra shopping may find themselves paying £70.20 purely in interest by the end of 2012, according to new research from MoneySupermarket.com.Shoppers who will rely on a credit card (11 per cent) could still be paying off debts in 12 years' time. The site calculated that if an individual pays the minimum they are required to each month on a £437 balance on an average credit card they would still be paying for this year's gifts in 2023."Using the wrong credit card could end up costing far more than they bargained for," said Kevin Mountford, head of banking at the organisation.The latest figures from Credit Action reveal that consumers in the UK pay £174 million in interest each day.Jennifer HainesJennifer's speciality knowledge is credit card changes and balance transfers.
