Payment protection insurance (PPI) refunds and credit card claims could provide the extra resources many will need in the new year.According to Kevin Mountford, head of banking at MoneySupermarket.com, consumers in the UK have seen their incomes stretched during the course of the last 12 months by high inflation and rising energy bills.He stated that with Christmas fast approaching, some household budgets will fail to cope and he pointed out that a fifth of British families will owe more money by the start of January."It is imperative that consumers try and fight back and do as much as they can to sort out their finances by setting resolutions for themselves as we head into 2012," Mr Mountford said.According to recent research from Skipton Financial Services, wage incomes are struggling to cope with the cost of living.
