What Is Payment Protection Anyway?

Since there is so much hubbub all over the news and plastered about the web, you have probably heard or read, "Payment protection get it back!" but may be unclear as to exactly what it is. Payment protection is a type of insurance cover that is meant to provide security for borrowers in the event they cannot make loan payments in the event they cannot work due to sickness, accident or redundancy. In theory it is a good type of cover to have albeit an expensive cover. The unfortunate thing about payment protection insurance is that it doesn't always provide the level of cover you would expect. Payment protection insurance is called by another bunch of names such as loan protection insurance, loan insurance and sometimes it is also referred to simply as PPI.

How Do I Know I Have Been Mis Sold PPI?

Of course the easiest way to know whether or not you have PPI would be to take a good, hard look at your loan documents. It will be itemized on your original docs and shouldn't be hard to spot because it will most certainly be a very large number, sometimes equal to half again the amount of your loan. On the other hand, if you can't put your hands on the original documents you can get a pretty good idea of whether or not you are paying for this cover because your monthly loan payments will be inordinately large. If you find that you have been mis sold payment protection get it back by filing for a refund with the lender.
