PPI Miselling

Mis sold payment protection in principle is not a bad product and for many people it can provide a valuable form of protection, but the cover is not suitable for everyone and not everyone can be offered coverage. Problems occur where policies were recommended and sold to customers who did not understand them, need them or were ineligible to use them. This is known as PPI miselling.

If you are unsure whether you were Mis sold PPI, it is often helpful to begin by thinking about the what happened when you purchased your policy. What information where you given and did you feel your situation was adequately assessed. Examples of common failures in the sale of payment protection insurance that may constitute PPI miselling include: if the customer is given incorrect or misleading information regarding the policy, e.g that they had to have it or it would secure the borrowing.  Your policy may also be considered to have been mis-sold the cover if you were not given full information regarding the cover, for example if the costs were not fully explained or the terms and conditions were not made clear.

All these things may constiture PPI miselling. Miselling may also occur when a customer is sold a policy they do not need. You may not need a policy if you have secure employment E.G within the civil service or armed forces. or are entitled to full sick pay from your employer. You also would not need a policy if you were unemployed, retired or in full time education. PPI covers for loss of employment, if you were not employed at the time of sale you should not have been sold a policy. In addition to this, some customers may be ineligible to have a PPI policy. You may be deemed to be ineligible if you were aged over sixty-five or were self-employed at the time of sale.
